How Big is the Latina Wage Gap in Your State? Check Out This Map!

April 12 is Equal Pay Day, the time of year we as a country recognize that it takes mujeres three-and-half extra months of work to earn what men make in a year. While commendable, the math is only true for white women, who make on average 78 cents for every white man’s dollar.

For women of color, the situation is bleaker. African American women, for instance, make about 63 percent of a non-Hispanic white man's dollar, and Latinas earn as little as 54 percent, meaning that, for us, it’ll take more than an additional four months to get the dinero we deserve.

But even for Latinas, who are dealing with racial and gender discrimination, the pay gap can vary. Aside from immigration status and sexual orientation, which also impact wage disparities, where Latinas live also play a role.
