MTV Latin America is developing a Mexican version of its hit reality show Jersey Shore and its viral series Ridiculousness, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The network has ordered 13 episodes of both shows, which will premiere in Latin America and Mexico in September.
Mexico Shore, the working title of the new series, will be MTV’s third international version of the show made famous by Latinas Snooki and JWoww. The U.K. version, called Geordie Shore, is set primarily in Newcastle, England. It drew strong ratings during its seven-season run.
In Spain, the Spanish-language Gandía Shore, produced nearly a million viewers in 2012. A second season is currently in the works, and the first season will premiere in Latin America in March.
The location of the Mexican version has yet to be determined.
According to Sofia Ioannon, the managing director of Viacom International Media Networks for the Americas, Ridiculousness Mexico is looking for a witty host with good comedic timing and a fresh perspective. The original version of the show features various viral videos with commentary by host Rob Dyrdek, and is similar to Bob Saget’s America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Casting for both new Latin Americans shows will begin soon.
