The man who inspired the #HotJesus trend is now getting his own show on The CW!
Diogo Morgado, who plays Jesus in The Bible miniseries and in the current Son of God flick, has been cast in the lead role of one of the network's most-buzzed about new projects, according to E! News.
The Portuguese actor will be taking on a role in the series The Messengers, a sci-fi drama pilot centering on a group of seemingly unconnected strangers who die after a mysterious object crashes down to Earth. This time, Morgado won't be playing Jesus. Instead, he'll be playing a "Jesus-like" character mysteriously labelled as "The Man."
The Man is a strange figure who wakes up naked and burned in the desert and sets out on a mission to find answers about what happened.
The Twittersphere has been buzzing for weeks with pictures and comments about Morgado's alluring interpretation of the Son of God. While some have embraced #HotJesus, others argue that he's just way too sexy to be taken seriously.
And how does the 34-year-old feel about the adoration? "It's a compliment, obviously," he told The New York Times. "But I don't want that to take away from what we tried to achieve. The best story is the story that gets to the most people. If the message of Jesus was love, hope and compassion, and I can bring that to more people by being a more appealing Jesus, I am happy about that."
