With the winter chill setting in across the U.S., the time for a Caribbean getwaway couldn't be better. Starting in 2014, Disney Cruise Line, a long-time favorite amongst families, couples and anyone who just loves Disney (read: everyone) will be adding San Juan, Puerto Rico as its newest port-of-call on the Disney Magic. But whether you're enjoying the sunshine on Disney's latest or existing itineraries (Sister ships include Disney Dream, Fantasy & Wonder), one thing's for sure - your sailing will be truly magical and filled with world-class entertainment, activities, food and lodging. Check out five of our favorite experiences from our time aboard the Disney Dream and don't forget to share your Disney Cruise experience in the comments below!
1. Castaway Cay
We're not saying you shouldn't book your itinerary if the cruise doesn't go to Castaway Cay (pronounced "key"), but you may want to reconsider! Disney's private island in the Bahamas is an unspoiled paradise that captures the spirit of the popular Disney theme parks and offers tons of activities, all at your leisure. You can park your butt on a water mat in the pristine blue waters, snorkel all day with the kids or kayak with your loved ones. If you're without children (or want to be without children for the day), make your way down to the exclusive adults-only beach, Serenity Bay, hands-down the most relaxing and pictureque part of the island.
2. Castaway Cay Massage
Previous convincing aside, visiting Castaway Cay if only for a massage in a private cabana on the beach would be totally worth it. No cheesy massage music necessary, imagine hearing the smooth sound of waves meet the sand and wind as birds hum in their natural, tropical environment. Are you relaxed yet?
3. Palo Restaurant
While all of the food on board is first class, the adults-only Palo fine dining restaurant is simply a treat. Serving Northern Italian fare, you'll be eating inside one of the most beautiful and delicious restaurants on the high seas for nominal upgrade fee ($20 per person for food and you can bring your own wine), which in our opinion, is more than worth it. Buen Provecho!
If the three pools on board (one is adult-only) aren't enough to cool you off from the blazing-hot sun, you'll want to jump on the AquaDuck. Whether you're a kid who just passed the 42" height requirement or a kid at heart, this massive waterslide roller coaster that spans almost the entire 11th deck will have you running back to do it over and over again.
5. Buccaneer Blast!
Sure, you've seen fireworks before but did you ever think you'd see them in the middle of the ocean ...from a cruise ship? You'll watch in wonder as Disney lights up the open sea with a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed fireworks display that rivals some of the best on land.
