I’m not much of a cook, so sometimes I may slack when it comes to making complete meals. I usually only do that on the weekends, when I have time to relax (I hate to rush in the kitchen—if I cook, it’s more of a therapeutic thing). So, taking nutritionist Christina Persaud’s advice, I’m trying to stay in my range of 1,200 calories a day. So I found the perfect solution for an on-the-go girl like me: the Luna bar. My fave used to be the Lemon Zest flavor, but now I have a new one: the Dulce de Leche, of course!

I don’t know about you, but I get tired of running on a treadmill or doing the elliptical machine rather quickly. And I've already told you my sentiments on gyms, so it’s no surprise that whenever I can escape them and run outdoors, I do so.

I might have gotten off to a rocky start, but since seeing some results I've gotten on track. For starters, I’ve been eating breakfast before I walk out the door in the morning instead of four hours after I wake up. Nutritionist Christina Persaud said that not only was I missing out on chances to pack in extra calories to my diet, but that I was also messing around with my metabolism by having my first meal so late. And she was right. I’d often get a headache during my commute and get to work ravenous and cranky: an awesome recipe for inattentiveness.

As promised, here are some before and after pics of my arms—my biggest hang-up when I signed up for this health challenge. I hated my arms. I mean, most of the time I wouldn’t even wear sleeveless clothes. Such was my disdain for the skinny fat girl arms. I found a particularly offensive “before” pic of me and my BFF Naomi where I think my arm looks flabtastic. Well, ladies, no mas! Check me out at week tres of my health challenge. I like pain. When I used to play competitive sports it was how I knew I was really pushing myself and giving my all. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the endorphin kick you get when you are really physically exerting yourself, something people refer to as a "runner's high"—but you can get it from doing just about any cardio exercise for an extended period of time. So now, when I work out, I strive to for that feeling.

I’m unbelievably impatient and will quickly lose interest if I don’t see results right away. Previous attempts to gain weight by eating greasy burger after greasy burger were always short-lived because I wouldn’t gain a pound. I’ve since learned that eating just one big meal and slacking off for the rest of the day was not going to cut it.
Well I’m thrilled to say that I’ve already seen the numbers go up on my scale! I’d leveled off at 80 pounds since November and in the past four weeks I’ve gained—drum roll please—five pounds!

So I’m a few weeks into my health challenge and though I’m constantly tempted by the cookies and scones that are brought into the office, I feel like I’ve made some progress. At the very least I’m learning more about my body. Marc Hochstein, who totally resembles Christian Bale AND happens to be my trainer at Manhattan Plaza Health Club (wink, wink), taught me something new the other day. He explained that you can’t do the exact same workout twice or your body will outsmart you and the muscles will get lazy.

I have a big trip coming up at the end of June involving about 15 of my besties and a bikini, so you would think that the horrors of having all of my closest friends seeing me half-clothed would be the kick in the pants I need to get my behind to the gym. But, perpetual procrastinator that I am, I'm always convincing myself that I'll just hit the gym tomorrow and sleep in today.

I’m not going to lie to you. I’ve always had this phobia of gyms. Or maybe it’s the sweaty people who inhabit them. But now that I’ve started my health challenge, hired a hot trainer and begun to hit the Manhattan Plaza Health Club on the regular, I’m going to need to get over my fear once and for all. And there’s a few things that are helping me do that, including:
