Staff Health Challenge: This Fight is Far From Over
By Dorkys Ramos | 07/08/2009 - 16:25

And so the Latina Staff Health Challenge comes to a close, but my personal one is far from over. Throughout these 90 days I saw how it was possible to gain weight if I kept on top of things and then how easily I lost it if I so much as skimped on a meal. The frustrations came in when after gaining several pounds within the first few weeks, I lost a couple just as fast. I had to banish my scale to underneath the bed when I saw how much importance I was giving those numbers. That constant up and down affected my motivation to keep trying.

Staff Health Challenge: Me? Anorexic? Nah…
By Dorkys Ramos | 06/03/2009 - 14:15

Over the course of a rough 2008, I lost an alarming 10 pounds. Not much to some, but when you’re already treading through underweight territory, it can be downright dangerous.

My wake up call finally came late last summer, the morning after I’d weighed myself in at 76 pounds. Staff Health Challenge: Getting into the Groove
By Dorkys Ramos | 05/05/2009 - 16:30

I might have gotten off to a rocky start, but since seeing some results I've gotten on track. For starters, I’ve been eating breakfast before I walk out the door in the morning instead of four hours after I wake up. Nutritionist Christina Persaud said that not only was I missing out on chances to pack in extra calories to my diet, but that I was also messing around with my metabolism by having my first meal so late. And she was right. I’d often get a headache during my commute and get to work ravenous and cranky: an awesome recipe for inattentiveness.

Staff Health Challenge: Immediate Results, Please!
By Dorkys Ramos | 04/28/2009 - 11:15

I’m unbelievably impatient and will quickly lose interest if I don’t see results right away. Previous attempts to gain weight by eating greasy burger after greasy burger were always short-lived because I wouldn’t gain a pound. I’ve since learned that eating just one big meal and slacking off for the rest of the day was not going to cut it.

Well I’m thrilled to say that I’ve already seen the numbers go up on my scale! I’d leveled off at 80 pounds since November and in the past four weeks I’ve gained—drum roll please—five pounds!
