According to some economists, the South American country’s shortage stem from price controls meant to make basic goods available to the poorest parts of society, as well as the government’s controls on foreign currency.

The election of Hugo Chavez’s successor on Sunday has sparked a demand for a recount by his rival. Nicolas Maduro won Venezuela’s presidential election on Sunday by a very narrow margin (234,935 votes to be exact) and according to electoral officials, he earned just 50.7 percent of the votes compared to 49.1 percent for Henrique Capriles.

A final resting place has been determined for Hugo Chávez’s body.
The Miami Herald is reporting that the late president’s body is set to be displayed permanently at an old fort of historic significance on a Venezuelan hilltop. The 113-year-old structure known as Cuartel de la Montaña (Mountain Barracks) was used by Chávez to direct coup operations.

As Venezuela (and the world) deals with the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's death, details are coming to light about the polarizing leader's funeral and final resting place. According to the Associated Press, Chavez's body will be preserved and displayed indefinitely inside a glass tomb at a military museum (Museum of the Revolution) that is not far from the palace where he ruled from for 14 years.
