Latina’s very own Deputy Editor Angie Romero was a guest on the semi-final episode of Univision’s Nuestra Belleza Latina last night. NBL is the network’s take on America’s Next Top Model, only slightly more pageant-y and super-Latinized. We love that the show’s “mean” judge Osmel Sousa can rock a blue, sequined jacket and still be respected and feared. We certainly wouldn’t mess with him!

With the news coming out yesterday that the Latino population in the U.S. grew 43% since 2000, we thought we would check in with President of Univision Networks, César Conde. As we reported in January, Univision aims to be the top TV network in the U.S. by 2015. As of February, they were the number 4 network, beating NBC.

Competition is heating up between Spanish-language television and network giants like ABC and CBS. Univision is closing in fast, and the Miami-based network has a killer strategy—us!  

"We expect to be the number one [network] in this country in five years," said Univision Network president Cesar Conde during a conference for the National Association of Television Program Executives. "What we have to do is instill that hunger to be number one in our staff and then we have to have flawless execution," Conde added.

Soy Tu Dueña Wins TV Ratings Race, Again!

According to Perez Hilton, Univision's Soy Tu Dueña was the number one show on TV this past week beating out hit shows NCIS: L.A., No Ordinary Family and a SNL holiday special, bringing in 5.8 million viewers in the key demographic, 18-49. This isn’t the first time the telenovela has won the night, winning the ratings race for the first time in June.
