Just before Christmas, it was announced that Lauren Velez, the boricua actress most known for her role on Showtime's Dexter, will join Ugly Betty as a guest star for multiple episodes in 2009. So far, all we know is that Velez will play Elena, a nurse who "enters the lives of the Saurez family"; the folks at ABC are keeping all other details under strict wraps because her role is directly tied to a major turn of events on the hit show--i.e., someone dies!

The Screen Actors Guild Award nominations were announced this morning, and we'd like to say felicidades to America Ferrera, who will vie for Oustanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. The Ugly Betty star won the award in 2007 but lost to 30 Rock's Tina Fey this year, so expect a showdown between these TV divas when the awards air on January 25! Or maybe not, since neither of them is particularly diva-like, and everyone and their dog is obsessed with Tina this year...but here's hoping anyway.

The catfights at Mode magazine seem to have nothing on the real-life feud between Ugly Betty star América Ferrera, and guest star Lindsay Lohan. The New York Post reports that Lindsay's six-episode contract was cut down to four, at the insistence of América.
One production source said, "It was a mess. Lindsay would show up every day with an entourage of people. She smoked 24/7, and after she left, they had to repaint her dressing room it was such a mess."

According to Ok!, Ana Ortiz gets serious in a interview with Entertainment Tonight (airing Friday). The Ugly Betty actress discusses her partnership with “Tell a Gal P.A.L.," the Allstate Foundation's domestic violence program for victims of abusive relationships. Women often don’t have anyone to turn to when they’re being abused, which can lead to them staying in a dangerous situation.

We knew the writers of Ugly Betty were in trouble last season when they had Betty choosing between going to Rome with the Sandwich King or Tuscon with the Boring Accountant, so we decided to lend a helping hand. Here's what we think each of our favorite characters should be doing this season...

Adriana Lima will make Ugly Betty a whole lot prettier when she guest stars on the show in an upcoming episode. The Brazilian supermodel will play a—wait for it—Victoria's Secret model hired to pose for Mode's Sizzling Hot Issue and will share scenes with América Ferrera's character, Betty Suarez.
"Adriana has always been a huge fan of Ugly Betty and is thrilled for the opportunity to make a guest star appearance," says her rep Liza Anderson.

The stars came out in their red-carpet worthiest digs last night for the Imagen Foundation Awards, honoring the crème de la creme of Latinos in the entertainment industry.
Not surprisingly, we learned that everyone loves Ugly Betty, which snagged Best Primetime Series and Tony Plana as Best Supporting Actor and also took home a Lifetime Achievement Award. However, we’re massively confused as to how Christina Milian, who apparently starred in some show called Snowglobe, beat America Ferrera for Best TV Actress.

Dozens of Hollywood's biggest celebrities—Latino and otherwise—stepped out on the red carpet for the ALMA awards last night. Host/producer Eva Longoria Parker dazzled in an array of gowns, but her best accessory was definitely her husband Tony Parker.
