For many a teenage girl in Latin America, a "quinceañera" party is a cherished rite of passage, a traditional coming-out celebration for 15-year-olds.

Not all families can afford the colorful gowns and other niceties for such parties, though. So for each of the past five years, Nicaragua's Association of Mothers and Fathers of Children with Cancer and Leukemia has put on a quinceañera for girls from poor, rural families — teens who have the added burden of dealing with cancer.

The Las Vegas Metro Police Explorers put together two car washes this past weekend in order to raise money to cover funeral costs for a fellow Explorer who was killed last Thursday in a car-motorcycle accident.

Angel Velasquez, 19, died Thursday evening at Sunrise Hospital after a hit-and-run incident.  

According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, Velasquez was traveling East on Sahara Avenue in a 2013 Honda motorcycle when the driver of a 2013 Volkswagen struck him as he was approaching Van Patten Street.

Plan B, or the morning after pill, will now be sold as an over-the-counter drug and will be available for those 15 or older. While the pill used to be available for teens, the contraceptive was sold to those 17 or older, and only with a prescription. With the new law in place, those wishing to buy the pill can do so without seeing a pharmacist. cashiers will be responsible for age checks.

Two teens were shot in a park in Portland, Texas on June 23, one of them fatally. Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a nature area park in Portland by a couple that Saturday morning, reported Corpus Christi Caller Times. Olgin, whose father is Hispanic, was found dead.
