President Obama intends to name Thomas Perez as the new secretary of Labor, who currently serves as the assistant attorney general for the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, reports the LA Times. If passed, Perez would be the only Latino in the Cabinet at this point in Obama's second term.

Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) is one step closer to joining President Obama’s Cabinet as Secretary of Labor. After being stalled for weeks, the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Senate committee voted to send Solis’s nomination to the full Senate yesterday.
