All kidding aside, the Dominican genre of music sprouted in the disenfranchised rural areas of the island in the early 20th century. The usual themes of bachata, also referred to as the Dominican blues, are heartbreak, sadness over heartbreak, pain over heartbreak, and you guessed it…breaking hearts.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15, and President Obama is kicking off the month-long celebration in a major way!
The White House will be hosting a concert event honoring Latin music on September 16. There will be performances by Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Lila Downs, Romeo Santos, Alejandro Sanz, Prince Royce, Natalie Cole, Marco Antonio Solis, Arturo Sandoval and Raul Malo.

After heating up the charts with his latest single "Turn the Night Up," Enrique Iglesias has teamed up with bachata sensation Romeo Santos to go "Loco" on a new single together.
The song, which was released today, is the first Spanish-language single coming off of Iglesias' upcoming album, which will also include "Turn Up the Night."
