The appointment of Sonia Sotomayor to a Supreme Court seat seems to have hit some speed bumps in recent days. Although President Obama has a historic opportunity to appoint the first Hispanic judge in the court's history, it is unclear whether or not he will embrace it.

At yesterday's Spanish Grand Prix, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton was met by fans dressed up in blackface and taunting him for the color of his skin. It echoed the same events that had occurred last year in Barcelona, at another Formula One race in which Hamilton was repeatedly harassed by a small group of fans in the crowd.

Carlos Nerilus, a Haitian man living in the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo, was lynched and beheaded last week by an angry mob. The incident was allegedly sparked by Nerilus's attack on his employer the day before, a construction foreman identified as Pascual de Leon.

Two Latino teens, born in the United States and legal citizens were forcibly "deported" to Mexico against their will. Apparently, Mario, 17 and Ricardo, 16 (last names held because they were minors at the time of the proceedings) were both detained by agents while crossing the US/Mexico border who then proceeded to rip up the boys birth certificates.

Chip Saltsman is currently a candidate in the running to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. We were already pretty miffed at him for recording that "Barack the Magic Negro" song and distributing it on a CD to all of his cohorts for Christmas. But wait! It gets worse. Apparently on the very same CD of offensive tunes, he also recorded a little diddy called "The Star Spanglish Banner" in which he derides Latino immigrants.

Although it may seem as though we have made significant strides in this country with regards to race relations, the murder of Marcello Lucero serves as a stark reminder of how far we have yet to go.
Lucero, a 37 year old man of Ecuadorean descent was just walking down the street with a friend in Patchogue, LI late Saturday night when a group of seven teenage thugs attacked them without provocation.
