The news team for Telemundo 52 recently reported on Alma Minerva Chacon, a women who was terrorized by Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Unfortunately, she is just the latest in a long line of Latinos who have suffered at the hands of the ruthless Sheriff whose personal goal is to rid Arizona of all "illegals" and just maybe, all Latinos. Arpaio has repeatedly stated that he is breaking no laws and just enforcing the constitution by arresting more than 600 Latinos a year.

ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese was reprimanded by the sports channel after making racist remarks with regards to superstar NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya. While commentating during Saturday's Ohio State-Minnesota football game, a promotion for NASCAR pictured the top five drivers, but Montoya wasn't one of them.

When Ernestina Madragon was pulled over by the police in Dallas, she understood that she'd be getting a ticket that she deserved for making an illegal U-turn. It was the citation on the ticket for "not speaking English" and the accompanying fine that confused her. "He asked me if I spoke English. I said I speak a little and understand it," Madragon said.

In an unusual move, Fidel Castro, 83, recently used his column in Granma, the state-run newspaper of Cuba, to defend President Obama.
Declaring that the right-wingers who oppose Obama's policy hate the president because he is black, Castro said, "I don't have the slightest doubt that the racist right will do everything possible to wear him down, blocking his program to get him out of the game one way or another."

Being a U.S. citizen and son of a decorated Vietnam veteran, Hector Veloz never expected to find himself captive in an ICE jail. But that's exactly what happened when immigration officials mistook him for an illegal immigrant and threw him into an Arizona jail cell for 13 months starting in 2007.
"It was a nightmare," Veloz, 37, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

A "Hispanics Keep Out" sign has proudly been displayed on the front of a home in Azle, Texas, for the last several months. It has caused tension in the neighborhood, with many residents expressing a desire to see it taken down. The mayor of Azle also spoke out against the sign, assuring residents that it is not a view shared by most in the town.

David Arquette issued an apology for the racist remarks he spouted on Fox and Friends last week. In case you missed it, the "actor" first claimed that he was an expert on Latinos because he was born and raised in Los Angeles, and then said that while some Latina women have good judgment, others are "just nuts" in reference to Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court Nomination.

Steven Colbert took to his show, The Colbert Report, to address the issues raised during last week's Senate Confirmation hearings about Sonia Sotomayor's life experiences and possible biases. He uses a really great analogy about band-aids and crayola crayons and the "neutrality" of the flesh colors that we really wish we had dreamt up first.
