Yesterday, a Federal judge overturned the controversial Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage that defined marriage solely as a partnership between a man and woman. The ban was passed in California back in 2008. In ruling that the ban violated the civil rights of gay and lesbian couples, U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker wrote, "Proposition 8 both unconstitutionally burdens the exercise of the fundamental right to marry and creates an irrational classification on the basis of sexual orientation."
