Christina Aguilera traveled to Haiti earlier this week to meet children at two schools who have been receiving food through the World Food Programme's initiatives. Recently named a WFP Ambassador Against Hunger, Aguilera helped to serve the children meals of rice and beans and even set aside some time to sing "Happy Birthday to Haiti" with the kids as a symbol of the rebirth of the devastated nation.

The UN recently presented popstar Shakira with a medal in honor of all of her philanthropic work over the years helping children in need as part of their World Day of Social Justice celebration. As usual, Shakira used her moment in the spotlight to help those less fortunate, calling on everyone to do their part. "It's not too late to keep our promise to our children, but we must act now. Together, we can make education and decent work for all a reality," she said while accepting the award in Geneva, Switzerland.

Shakira is putting her money where her mouth is, as she so often does, by stepping up to the plate and announcing that her children's education non-profit Pies Descalzos will be helping to build a new school in Haiti. The Colombian pop star is partnering up with Pies Descalzos board member Howard Buffett (also the World Food Program Ambassador Against Hunger) and Architecture for Humanity to build the school.

The boricua actor interrupted his vacation on the Isla del Encanto for a talk at Bayamon Regional Prison just outside the island's capital of San Juan. Del Toro spoke to the inmates, emphasizing the importance of literacy to their rehabilitation, and explained how reading has been crucial to his own growth as an actor.
