The young men convicted of murdering Luis Ramirez by ruthlessly beating him in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania on July 12, 2008 were finally sentenced today, more than two years after the fatal beating.

Brandon Piekarsky, 17, and Derrick Donchak, 19, received 7- to 23-month sentences for their roles in the brutal murder of 25-year-old Mexican immigrant Luis Ramirez. It is a case that has galvanized the community of Shenandoah, Penn., creating a hotbed of racial tension in a blue-collar town. An all-white jury convicted the two teens of misdemeanor simple assault.

Two teens, accused in the fatal beating of Mexican immigrant Luis Ramirez in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania back in July of 2008, were recently acquitted of all serious charges by an all white jury. Brandon Piekarsky, 17, was acquitted of third-degree murder and Derrick Donchak, 19, was acquitted of aggravated assault. Charges of ethnic intimidation against both teens were also dropped.

On July 12th, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, Luis Ramirez was ruthlessly beaten by a group of youths, including some players on the town’s high school football team. Two days later, the 25 year-old died from severe head injuries. Ramirez came to the United States from Mexico six years ago. He has lived here illegally since that time, working two jobs, and fathering three children.
