Last weekend I was super excited to go to a destination wedding in Paradisus Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic. For one, I haven’t been away in about a year and was desperate for a tanned glow. More importantly, I was excited to see one of my BFFs get married.

With the wedding date changed, I’ve been very lackadaisical when it comes to continuing the planning process. However, time flies and soon enough my wedding will be right around the corner. If I don’t get back to it I’ll be scrambling in the last minute trying to get things done.

As you know, I have chosen my dress, but, unfortunately, I can’t share it with you all because I would DIE if Hec happened to see it, so you will have to wait until the wedding like everyone else. But, I will tell you that I kept the dress very classic to go along with a veil (which I have yet to choose) and I chose a dress I felt was appropriate for my day ceremony as well as the reception. That is, until I found out that my fabulous stylish hubby-to-be was going to get fitted for not one, but TWO custom-made tuxedos!

My wedding was supposed to be this weekend, but rather than sulk around thinking about what would have been, I planned an unforgettable night of bachelorette fun for my best friend, Nercys, and I made sure she partied like a rockstar for her last night as a single woman!

I am very happy and comfortable with moving my wedding date, but the one thing that bothers me is the issue of my invitations. My wedding invitations were lovely (at least I thought so), and I put so much thought into them, so it’s too bad I won’t be able to use them. When I decided to postpone the wedding, I had already mailed all my invitations, which I should mention were addressed in calligraphy writing, and received many RSVP responses, so basically the whole project was a waste.

Recently there was a dry run for the arrival of the wedding with a Kate Middleton look-alike in tow. It is said that she will arrive in a car surrounded with about one thousand members of the British military on their horses and the newly minted royal couple will leave in a horse and carriage for their “first” kiss. Needless to say, Kate’s going to make a grand entrance, as it should be, since it is a royal wedding and millions of viewers will be watching. It brought up a question I’ve have been asking myself for months now: Should I have a grand entrance?

Since I’ve announced my wedding date, the amount of people who have offered to help in the process has been incredible. It’s been very telling of how much love we have around us, which makes me confident in knowing our day will be special because it will be filled with people who truly wish us well. Among these great people are many women – women that I love from all aspects of mine and Hector’s life. I have close cousins, childhood friends, adult life-long friends, and a sister of my own, not to mention all these types of women in Hector’s life as well.

I finally chose my wedding dress and while I am absolutely in love with it, I couldn’t be more excited about my shoes! Anyone who knows me knows I love fashion and above all else I am a shoe fiend. I DIE for a rockin’ pair of sky high stilettos (or any shoe for that matter), so when it came to buying my wedding shoes, I didn’t cut on costs and got these spectacular fancy red soled Christian Louboutins. Afterall, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy shoes of this caliber. I saw them and I just knew they were the shoes I had to wear on my wedding day.

While I was still working on other details of the wedding I realized my mom had been patiently waiting for me to call on her. My sister (her only other daughter) eloped, so you can imagine her excitement to be involved in my wedding. I learned early on in this process that if you involve too many people you will get frustrated if they impose on your decision-making, so my plan was to try and include the people close to me in individual things, making it special for them as well. My mom loves clothes and shopping, so naturally I wanted her to shop with me for my wedding dress.

I’m so happy to say that Hec is better and I can get back to wedding planning. Now that I found the venue, it was time to research vendors. My priorities were finding a florist, photographer, and a priest to officiate our wedding. A DJ is the one thing the groom-to-be decided to handle himself, hence why everything else has been checked off the list except that (sigh).
