This Friday, June 25th, marks the one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson's untimely death. CBS's The Early Show is celebrating the milestone with a special hour-long tribute entitled The King of Pop: One Year Later that will feature performances by Marc Anthony and Christina Aguilera. The special will air on Friday morning at 8AM EST.

Sony put on an impressive star-studded gala for the premiere of Kenny Ortega's This Is It concert film showing Michael Jackson's last days. In another example of how over-exploited the pop star's death has become, the This Is It premiere may be the first ever to sell merchandise commemorating the event. T-shirts, the film's CD and key chains were on sale for those lucky enough to be in attendance at the highly anticipated debut.

Two days ago, tickets for the posthumous Michael Jackson film This Is It went on sale. Surely many of you already have tickets. But for those of you who are tending to 20 things at the same time, some more urgent than others, I just wanted to tell you to stop whatever you’re doing right now and search for showtimes and tickets by zipcode here, otherwise you’ll have no choice but to wait for the DVD release.

Thousands of people gathered on Saturday in Mexico City to honor what would have been the 51st birthday of the king of pop, Michael Jackson.
Officials say that around 50,000 people came together, including upwards of 12,000 dancers to retrace the dance steps made famous around the world by the music video for Jackson’s "Thriller.” Men, women and children joined in the action, coming in costume and some getting their faces painted to reflect the ghoulish theme of the song.

Kenny Ortega, who was set to direct Michael Jackson’s big comeback tour before his death on June 25th, spoke to Extra about Jackson’s excitement over hitting the stage again. He was mostly looking forward to sharing this important part of his life with his three children: Prince Michael I, 12, Paris Michael, 11, and Prince Michael II (a.k.a. "Blanket"), 7. “He was gonna be able to share it with his children who are now old enough to be able to appreciate what he did,” Ortega said.

The mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, has reached out to Michael Jackson fans and L.A. residents to ask for tax-deductible donations to help cover the costs of the memorial service that took place today at the Staples Center. The city provided security for the massive motorcade that transported the pop star's body, shutting down tons of L.A.'s busiest thoroughfares and erecting massive screens to give fans who were unable to make it into the Staples Center a view of the ceremony, not to mention the hundreds of additional police officers deployed for the memorial.

Mariah Carey will perform today at the public memorial service for Michael Jackson, to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California today at 10AM PST. Announcement of Jackson's memorial service created a huge outpouring from fans, with more than 1.6 million people applying for the 8,750 free tickets given away for the event.
