Notes From Abroad: Coming Home
By Ivana Cepeda | 07/10/2009 - 14:55

I am back home, and aside from being exhausted from re-adjusting to the time difference, I’d say I had quite the experience living, working and commuting in London for a month. I can’t believe a month went by so quickly! As I re-cap my trip, let me share with you all the things I loved about London. I loved that it doesn’t get dark in the evening until almost 10pm, which made summer evenings very enjoyable. Notes From Abroad: Finding My Way

Before beginning our internships, my Professor instructed everyone in my program to do a “dry run” on the tube in order to avoid getting lost on the first day of work. My “dry run” was a disaster. I went to the tube station and got specific instructions on how to get to Bond Street. The tube system is very similar to my hometown NYC subway stations. But instead of using a Metrocard, the tube requires an Oyster card. You fill out a form that you give to the clerk and pay for the amount you want.

I remember when I was a senior in high school, I didn’t want to go away to college because I had space issues, and the idea of sharing my room with a stranger totally freaked me out. But now I have the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in England, at the London College of Fashion. Space issues be damned!

Notes from Abroad: Queen for a Day
By Ivana Cepeda | 02/16/2009 - 13:06

I have been in London for a little over two weeks and it has been super-busy. I don’t even think I've had time to stop and process all that I've experienced, and I'm already at the halfway point. This past weekend was New York City’s National Puerto Rican Day Parade, and while I am sure the streets of Fifth Avenue were jam-packed with proud Puerto Ricans waving their flags, across the pond in London's St. James Park, I watched a different kind parade.
