We all have a bone to pick about the holiday season.
Whether it’s the overwhelming pressure to buy everyone in your family a gift – or the claustrophobic feeling that results from visits to the mall – it can be difficult sometimes to find a reason to smile around this time. By no means do we want to be pessimistic about the holidays – it is definitely a joyous time. We were just curious, so we brought this question to Latina’s readers on our Facebook page:

The self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff in America” is in trouble with the U.S. Department of Justice. According to America’s Voice Online, Maricopa County (AZ) Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s reign may end soon, as a result of a three-year investigation conducted by the department. Those familiar with Arpaio know of his controversial practices aimed at cracking down illegal immigration, and the fierce criticism he has received because of it.

After an arduous battle surrounding a controversy over the state’s congressional redistricting, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) released a statement recently about a new court-proposed plan that promises Latinos increased electoral opportunity in Texas. According to MALDEF, a new redistricting plan was released by three federal judges in San Antonio that will improve the representation for Latinos in Texas.
