The Tony Awards nominations were announced today, and we admit we're a bit bummed that no Latinos were nominated this year (except of course the superbly talented Lin-Manuel Miranda, a previous Tony winner who wrote the music for this year's hit Broadway musical Bring It On: The Musical, which was nominated for Best Musical). Congrats to Miranda!

As one of the biggest In the Heights fans on the planet, I had to share this brilliant video with all of you. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo star in this hilarious parody of Jay-Z's "Run This Town," featuring Rihanna and Kanye West. "Run This Tour" was made to promote the upcoming (and highly anticipated) National Tour of Broadway’s Tony-winning smash In the Heights—which will launch on Oct. 27 at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.

Review: Broadway's 'West Side Story' Offers Nada Nuevo

After watching Karen Olivo take home a Tony for her role in the Broadway revival of West Side Story, and hearing all of the buzz surroudning the play, I decided I had to check it out. After watching the show, which opened in March and can currently be seen at NYC's Palace Theatre, I was left wondering why 91-year-old American playwright and director Arthur Laurents revived this play if nothing new was going to come of it.

At the Palace Theater in New York City, the crowd cheers the loudest for Karen Olivo. She isn’t the lead of Broadway’s West Side Story revival, but as Anita, the Puerto Rican spitfire and Sharks gang girl originally played by Chita Rivera in the 1957 musical (and Rita Moreno four years later in the film version), she’s the one the audience jump to their feet for.
