A recent report by the Associated Press highlighted a disturbing trend among Border Patrol agents. It seems that suicides have drastically increased recently. At least 15 agents have killed themselves since February 2008, equaling the largest spike at the law enforcement agency in more than 20 years.

President Barack Obama signed a $600 million border security bill into law last week in hopes of moving the immigration reform debate forward. For years, conservatives and Republicans have argued that a discussion about reforming the current immigration system is not valid until more has been done to reinforce and protect our borders. The border security bill aims to do just that.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum proposed a sweeping immigration reform bill in his homestate this week that trumps even Arizona's notorious SB 1070 and would give Florida the distinction of being the state with the harshest stance on immigration in the United States.
McCollum, who is also the Republican Gubenatorial candidate, said of his new bill: "Arizona is going to want this law. We're better, we're stronger, we're tougher and we're fairer."

Heavyweights who cover politics in Latin media are weighing in with discontent on President Obama's failure to propose important immigration legislation as he advocated during his campaign. And the sense is that the president is, as a result, losing support within the Latino community. Univision’s Jorge Ramos, an anchor on the Spanish-language television network, told politico.com that Pres. Obama broke his promise to produce an immigration reform bill within a year of taking office.
