Chespirito, also known by his government name Roberto Gomez Bolaños, received the Legend Award at the 25th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards last week. The 82-year-old legendary Mexican actor is best known for his role in El Chavo del Ocho, a Televisa show that centers on the adventures of an orphan named Chavo and other inhabitants of an apartment building. Bolaños, who created the sitcom, played the orphan, who was named El Chavo.

President Barack Obama opened his speech at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s annual gala Wednesday night with a joke reminding everyone that Rey Decerega, the institute’s program director, had accidentally broken his lip during a basketball game last November. “Not many people can give the President of the United States stitches on his lip and get away with it,” Obama said.

Dominican bachata singer Prince Royce will sing the national anthem and perform a special musical tribute at the CHCI’s 34th Annual Awards Gala during Hispanic Heritage Month. The gala, which is considered the premier event of Hispanic Heritage Month events, will take place on September 14th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C and is expected to welcome more than 3,000 Latino leaders, influencers and supporters.
