The AMC IMAX in Burbank, CA was packed Monday night to see Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s robots-versus-monsters sci-fi Pacific Rim as part of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Tastemaker screening.
With 3-D glasses in hand, youth from local organizations (a personal request from Del Toro) and press listened attentively as the director himself introduced the film. Wearing an inconspicuous ensemble of black T-shirt, black pants, and black shoes, Del Toro shared his inspiration.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim was a life-saver for him. According to NBC Latino, the acclaimed Mexican director opened up about the struggle he had prior to receiving the green light for the sci-fi film (out on July 12), which focuses on mankind’s use of fantastic robots called Jaegers in a struggle to survive the flood deadly monsters known as Kaiju.

In his nearly 30-year career, Guillermo del Toro has become one of the masters of dark fantasy in Hollywood. The Mexican filmmaker, who was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock, has directed and/or produced some of the most memorable sci-fi horror films and ghost stories ever made, including Mimic, The Orphanage and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. And, he’s back as the executive producer of the scarefest Mama.

A new take on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast is in the works and Mexican director Guillermo del Toro is at the helm. The deal for the film, entitled Beauty, began last spring and has since had Emma Watson come on board to play the title character while Andrew Davies was brought on to write the script.
