A new wave of messages spreading through text messaging, Facebook and other social networking sites has sparked fear in the Latino community.

The messages refer to a classic urban legend about oncoming cars driving past without their headlights on. The myth states that you should not don't that driver with a courtesy flash, because it could be gang members playing a deadly initiation game, which requires them to murder whoever flashes their headlights.

Did you know that Latinos are twice as likely to have diabetes than our Caucasian counterparts? In fact, around 10 percent of Hispanics (two million of us) are reported to have diabetes.

To mark World Diabetes Day on November 14th, HealthSeeker Explorando tu Salud, Paso a Paso was created. Healthseeker is a Facebook application that aims to help the nearly 10 million Latino who use the social networking site by providing lifestyle and nutritional tips to manage diabetes.

Now in addition to fighting a war against drug cartels, the Mexican government is trying to crack down on los Twitteros…as in members of the social networking site. Turns out some users have been twittering the locations of alcoholimetros—Breathalyzer checkpoints set up to curb its high drunk driving rate. On one such feed, Anti Alcoholimetro, users write in with the time and location of Mexico City checkpoints to help others avoid them.
