In the new film, Gun Hill Road, (opening in select cities on August 5th), Puerto Rican actor Esai Morales plays Enrique, an ex-con who returns home from prison to discover that his son Michael (Harmony Santana) is now a transgendered girl named Vanessa. Esai says the new movie—which he describes as the "Latino Crying Game meets Precious"— isn't for people with weak stomachs. It's intense, dark, and at times brutal.

Esai Morales and Judy Reyes teamed up for first-time director Rashad Ernesto Green's debut film Gun Hill Road, premiering this week at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
The film follows an ex-convict (Morales) who returns home after three years to an estranged wide and a son who is going through major changes—as in becoming a woman! The film takes a hard look at what it means to be a man and even more importantly, what it means to be family. Check out the sneak peek below:

We caught up with Esai Morales at the recent Latino Baseball MVP awards hosted by Latino Sports Ventures in NYC and had a chance to chat up the La Bamba star. The hot button issue on everyone's lips was the possible boycott of the 2011 MLB All-Star game, currently slated to be held in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field (home of the Diamondbacks).
