We could very well rename this column the “What to Watch That Danny Trejo Stars In” because the prolific Mexican American actor seems to release a new movie every week! And we love him for it. Ranchero is his new indie film, opening today in limited theaters across the country. Directed by newcomer Richard Kaponas, Ranchero is a fish-out-of-water story focused on aspiring photographer Jesse Torres (Roger Gutierrez), who leaves his Sacramento cattle-ranch life for the mean streets of Los Angeles.

The last thing you’d ever think of while watching the gritty, no-holds-barred exploitation film that is Robert Rodriguez’s 2010 action-film, Machete, is a cup of cold, soothing ice tea.

Robert Rodriguez's latest film might be his shortest one yet. The Machete director recently directed a short film called, The Black Mamba for Nike Basketball that stars Kobe Bryant as The Black Mamba--a gritty hero who utilizes fundamental basketball skills to dispose of villains such as The Crippler (Danny Trejo), Mister Suave (Bruce Willis) and The Boss (Kanye West).

Danny Trejo has been in nearly 200 movies, his latest being Machete, which opens this week and marks his ninth collaboration with director (and distant cousin) Robert Rodriguez. But as ubiquitous as the Mexican American’s fearsome face and physique is, there is still a lot most people don’t know about the real Danny. Here are some of the most surprising bits:

After producing this summer’s Predators reboot, bad boy Texican filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is back with Machete, starring tough-guy Danny Trejo as a double-crossed ex-Mexican federale. With Rodriguez’s trademark over-the-top violence and butt-kicking chicks and its "We-didn’t-cross-the-border; the-border-crossed-us" take on the immigration issue, the movie is bound to create controversy. When we spoke to Rodriguez, though, he insisted it was all in the name of giving moviegoers a much needed good time.
