The Cuban government has given the green light to the publication of Che Guevara's personal diaries of the revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power in 1959. Entitled Diary of a Combatant, the diaries share Che's experiences first hand—from landing on the Cuban coast in 1956 aboard the now infamous yacht, Granma, through the three years of armed conflict and fighting in the Sierra Madre mountains of central Cuba that followed.

Gustavo Villoldo, 73, fled Cuba shortly after the revolution. His father, also named Gustavo, was a member of the upper class Cuban society that eventually came to represent all that was corrupt and wrong with society in the eyes of Fidel Castro and Ernesto "Che" Guevara.
