A fifteen-year-old boy was killed earlier this week by US Border patrol agents, setting off a string of protests and a possible homicide investigation by Mexican authorities. Although the Border Patrol claimed that the boy, Sergio Adrian Hernandez, was shot after he unsuccessfully tried to cross the border illegally and began to throw rocks at agents, two eyewitnesses claim otherwise.

Edwin Valero, the Venezuelan World championship boxer who was coined the next Manny Pacquiao, was found dead of apparent suicide this weekend after admitting to murdering his wife. Valero was taken into police custody on Saturday after the body of his 24-year-old wife, Jennifer Viera, was found violently stabbed to death in a hotel in the city of Valencia in Venezuela.

The governor of Puerto Rico announced this week that he was activating the National Guard in the small island commonwealth. The measure was intended to be a temporary move to help curb rising crime rates while new police forces are recruited and trained.
"Nobody, especially me, can be happy with the number of killings last year. We have to do much more to stop this," Gov. Luis Fortuño declared during his State of the Commonwealth speech.

First, the good news: The kidnapped newborn of Nashville resident Maria Gurrolla was found unharmed in a home in Ardmore, Ala., about 80 miles south of Nashville near the Tennessee line. Four days after Gurrolla, 30, gave birth to Yair Anthony Carillo, a knife-wielding woman posing as an immigration agent stabbed the young mother in her neck and upper chest before stealing the baby. Gurrolla’s 3-year-old daughter was left untouched.
