Carlos Campos frequently finds inspiration for his shows in his travels and this time around, the talented designer based his Fall/Winter 2011 Men’s Collection on the incredibly romantic stylings of Chile’s poet laureate Pablo Neruda.

The fall 2010 collection of designer Carlos Campos was inspired by three things: Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the film Desperado, mariachi, and the embellishments found on a Mexican sombrero. It was, as Campos put it, “a thank-you to Mexico; they’ve done so much for me and my career.” And what a thank-you it was! The inspiration played out quite literally in structured shoulders and neat tailoring, corbatin-style neck ties, and botonaduras adorning shorts and lapels.

The 12th annual Fashion Group International Rising Star Awards were held in New York City on Thursday, and Sergio Davila and Carlos Campos tied in the men’s apparel category.
Everyone at the event agreed that this type of recognition is particularly helpful during these bad economic times. In stressing the importance of support, Davila told the crowd gathered at The Rainbow Room, “I hope to see you all at fashion week in Bryant Park. You are all invited.”
