Zoe Saldana is super excited at the prospect of having a starring role in not one, but two blockbuster sci-fi franchises. Star Trek 2 is already in talks and J.J. Abrams is reportedly in the process of writing a script, while James Cameron hinted in an interview the other day that he plans on bringing us all back to Pandora eventually.

Could it be that James Cameron has finally topped...himself?
Fox reports that Avatar ticket sales have surpassed Titanic's record setting $1.24 billion. Avatar hit $1.29 billion at the international box office this weekend and the studio estimates that the sci-fi blockbuster will top Titanic's worldwide gross of $1.848 billion to become globe's biggest selling movie of all time by Monday.

James Cameron's latest blockbuster film, Avatar, tells the story of the nature loving N'avi warriors who live on the lush planet Pandora and are fighting to keep foreign corporations from exploiting their natural habitat. Although the film depicts an all too familiar Hollywood story of a White man rescuing a primitive, indigenous population (see Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai, etc.), Bolivian president Evo Morales has praised the movie's message of nature preservation.

James Cameron’s Avatar is obviously all the rage right now, with the film so far earning over $1 billion worldwide and dazzling audiences with its groundbreaking technology. And while critics and fans can’t stop raving about the expansive beauty of the film overall, Zoe Saldana’s name keeps coming up as the film’s best performance.

It’s only been out for 17 days, but James Cameron’s Avatar is blowing away the competition and breaking records. It’s been number one in the U.S. for three straight weeks, raising its domestic total to $352.1 million. The film, starring Zoe Saldana and Michelle Rodriguez, has crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, a feat that has only been achieved by a total of five films. In fact, Cameron’s 1997’s Titanic maintains the top spot with $1.8 billion earned worldwide.

If box office totals are any clue, chances are you went to see James Cameron’s Avatar this weekend. Despite snowstorms that pounded much of the East Coast, Avatar managed to take the top spot with $73 million domestically and an estimated $231.18 million worldwide. That makes it the best 3-D debut ever and the second best December debut after Will Smith’s I Am Legend.

Zoë Saldana seems to be carving a niche for herself in the sci-fi film department, and hard-core fans of the genre couldn’t be happier. The Star Trek star was recently nominated for two Scream awards, which honor the best in the sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comedy genres. "Eight out of the ten highest grossing films of all time are in the Scream genres, which is due to the incredible passion and loyalty of these fans," said Casey Patterson, executive producer of the awards show.

Ok, we are officially counting down the days until James Cameron’s Avatar is released in theaters on December 18th. The director debuted clips from his highly anticipated new 3-D film at the Cinema Expo in Amsterdam. The whole thing was very top secret and media wasn’t allowed to report on the screening, but people at the event posted anonymously online that the footage was "jaw-dropping" and "stunning.”
