Legendary Folk Singer Facundo Cabral Murdered in Guatemala

Latin America lost a legend this past weekend. Facundo Cabral was shot and killed on Saturday in Guatemala. The 74-year-old Argentine singer/song-writer was en route to Guatemala City’s airport when unidentified gunmen in unmarked vehicles drove up beside Cabral and his team and opened fire. Cabral was shot at least eight times. His concert promoter, Henry Fariña, and road manager Dad Llanos, were wounded.

7.2 Earthquake Hits Mexico
Over the weekend, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake ripped through Mexico and Baja California, resulting in injuries to hundreds and three reported deaths. Since the original temblor, there have been 500 aftershocks, causing the governors of both the Mexican state of Baja California and Governor Schwarzenegger to declare states of natural disaster although the damage has been relatively minimal.
