The rumors turned out to be true! Mariah Carey is set to take the judge spot on American Idol, replacing Jennifer Lopez, reports EW. The pop diva will join for season 12. Her salary is expected to be somewhere between $12 million (the same salary paid to J.Lo during her first year on the show) and $17 million.

The top ten contestants, as well as megastars like Chaka Khan, Rihanna, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia, and more filled the American Idol season finale with nostalgic and captivating performances last night. A whopping 132 million votes were submitted, but (sadly) Philip Philips was declared the winner.

After 90 million votes were submitted, America has decided! Jessica Sanchez is officially in the top two after last night’s emotional elimination episode on American Idol. Joshua Ledet put up a good fight with his cover of Mary J. Blige’s cover of “No More Drama,” but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep the talented singer from New Orleans in the competition.
