Since filmmaker Robert Rodriguez produced Predators, the reboot of the 80s franchise dropping in theaters across the country tonight, we weren't at all surprised to learn that Alice Braga's character, Isabelle, is seriously badass. After all, Rodriguez loves to fill his films with strong women who wreak as much havoc as the male characters—something he attributes to having grown up with five sisters.

Summer doesn’t officially start until the middle of June, but we all know that Hollywood plays by its own rules. Every year, the summer movie season seems to start earlier and earlier and this year is no exception. Iron Man 2 kicked it off this weekend, raking in gazillions of dollars and charming critics and run-of-the-mill moviegoers alike. Robert Rodriguez’s Machete closes it out on September 3 with a star-studded tribute to the b-film movie genre. What’s in the middle?

Brasileña Alice Braga stars opposite the swoon-worthy Jude Law and Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker in Repo Men, a new sci-fi action flick hitting theaters nationwide today. So, if you're judging Braga by the company she keeps, it looks like homegirl is doing just fine!

That’s a bit of a stretch, in truth. But I immediately thought of Miz Braga when I heard of this cool new show on HBO Latino premiering tomorrow called Alice, which takes place in Sao Paolo, a monster of a city I’ve been dying to visit but am also kind of a little intimidated by (based on sheer size alone). But I’ve also heard it’s got some of the best restaurants and hands-down the best service. This from credible Brazilian folk.

Alice Braga is going the sexpot route for her next movie. Variety reports that the actress has signed on to play Maria, a call girl with an affinity for S&M, in 11 Minutes, a Hollywood Gang production based on the best-selling erotic novel by Brazilian writer Paulo Coehlo.

Alice Braga may have hit the big time in Hollywood, but her heart is rooted in Brazil. Favorite beach? Ipanema. Favorite designer? Maria Garciel. Favorite director? Fernando Meirelles, who gave Alice her breakthrough role in his Oscar-nominated film City of God (and did for her career what Pedro Almodóvar did for Penelope Cruz).

"There's sort of an accepted myth [in the film business]," Will Smith told the Birmingham Post in 2005, during a press junket for his film Hitch, "if you have two black actors—a male and a female—in a romantic comedy, people around the world don't want to see it. So, the idea of a black actor and a white actress comes up—and that's a problem in the US." The solution, Will concluded, while revealing a bit of insider Hollywood racism?
