Soledad O'Brien once asked me, "What does it mean to you to be Latino in America?" And, I told her that I have my feet in two cultures instead of one, and I feel very lucky.
When the Huffington Post asked me to write this blog, I was truly honored. We have an opportunity here to address the issues that affect us both as Latinos, and as Americans. We can ask for what we want, tell others our story and change the lives of those around us.

Very little is known about Aimee Garcia's hush hush role on the sixth season of Showtime's Dexter, except that Garcia will be playing the new nanny to Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) son, Harrison. We caught up with the lovely Aimee (who's part-Puerto Rican and part-Mexican) to get the inside scoop on what we can expect from the new season and whether she'll be playing Dexter's love interest.

Aimee Garcia is used to playing a teen. The 32-year-old actress is probably best known for her role as bratty Veronica Palmero on The George Lopez Show, and in her newest film Go For It! Garcia plays a 19-year-old Chicago-bred Latina who struggles to fulfill her dreams of becoming a professional dancer despite a slew of obstacles. The film, which hits theatres today, was written, directed, and produced by Latina Carmen Marron and features a mostly Hispanic cast.

ABC has finally announced Wednesday, January 12th at 10 p.m. as the premiere date for Off the Map! As you can tell, we're super excited for this new medical drama set in a tiny town in the South American jungle from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. The show stars two Latinas—Valerie Cruz and Aimee Garcia, both of whom you’ve probably seen on other hit TV shows.

It’s bad enough that Latinos account for only 4% of on-camera talent on television (despite the fact that we make up roughly 14% of the U.S. population), but the major networks have made matters even worse by canceling four shows featuring Latinas in starring roles.

Playing Iraq vet, helicopter pilot and sometimes-EMT Marisa Benez on NBC’s Trauma, which returns to Monday nights on Mar. 8, Aimee Garcia never gets to glam it up in designer dresses, diamonds, dramatic makeup, or daring hairdos. No wonder she was doubly thrilled to be at the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s 13th annual Impact Awards. Not only was she honored for Outstanding Performance in a Dramatic Television Series, she happily posed for the cameras in an Alice + Olivia strapless dress, Yves St. Laurent shoes, and Neil Lane jewelry.
