Penelope Cruz gave a shout out to her hometown of Alcobendas in her Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday, and now the community is showing her love right back. The mayor of Alcobendas, Ignacio Garcia de Vinuesa, has bestowed Cruz with the title of "Favorite Daughter" as the town's way of thanking the actress for putting it on the map.

Many of you agreed with us that Javier Bardem's decision to skip the Oscars and miss girlfriend Penelope Cruz's Best Supporting Actress win was a bad-boyfriend move, but apparently his absence wasn't just the result of "scheduling conflicts."

While half of our Oscar fantasy came true last night thanks to Penelope Cruz's big win, we're still bummed that Javier Bardem was not there to witness his girlfriend's historic moment. What happened to the onstage embrace we were all dying to see?

We all have Sunday night's Academy Awards on our minds, and actress Michelle Rodriguez is no different. When Latina.com caught up with the Dominican and Puerto Rican star, she said she believes Best Actor nominee Mickey Rourke will "take it home" for his performance in The Wrestler. She also insists that people have it all wrong when it comes to Rourke. "I don't think he's as crazy as people make him out to be," Rodriguez says. "I think people are crazy and he's just normal trying to live with the crazies."

Like many cinephiles, I used to love watching the Oscars on TV. Once upon a time, I even hosted Oscar parties! But, I must be honest: they've become kind of a bore lately. And apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so.
In recent years, ratings for the show have plummeted, and last year's live Oscar telecast, (hosted by Jon Stewart) earned the lowest national household ratings since 1953! That's back when people were just starting to figure out what this whole "watching television" thing was all about!

Woody Allen is a very lucky man. The Vicky Cristina Barcelona director just cozied up with Penelope Cruz for Vanity Fair's 2009 Hollywood Portofolio, an Annie Liebovitz-photographed spread pairing the top Oscar-nominated actors with the directors who guided them behind the camera.

Penelope Cruz is well on her way to winning that Oscar! The Spanish actress was recognized by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures as this year's Best Supporting Actress for her riveting performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, just days after being nominated for the same honor by the Independent Spirit Awards.

We're so proud of Penélope Cruz, Jessica Alba and Cameron Diaz—not only did these Latina leading ladies avoid the pitfall of wearing a red gown and looking like everyone else at the Oscars, but they also rejected the bright pinks and reds seen on the faces of other stars and went for an au naturale glow. All three stars proved that even on a night as spectacular as the Academy Awards, nude makeup can be sublimely sexy.

What was the No. 1 fashion trend at the 2008 Oscars? In a word, red--lots of it. You'd think that Latina celebrities would be all over the trend, but not this year! Our stars left that look to the likes of Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway, Heidi Klum and Helen Mirren, and instead, they chose softer gowns that stood out in a sea of crimson. Here are the bold looks that Latinas rocked this year. Though few, they're all fabulous!
