Last May, Scotty McCreery made history when he became the first Latino ever to win FOX's reality singing competition, American Idol. Now, our favorite part-Puerto Rican crooner has broken another record—Billboard.com reports that McCreery is the first country artist ever to have his first studio album debut at No. 1!
McCreery's album Clear as Day debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Album charts! The success of the album also marks the first time since 2003 that an American Idol winner’s debut album started off at the top spot. The only others to achieve that milestone were Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard.
Simon Fuller, creator and executive producer of American Idol—and McCreery’s manager—said of his client’s future, “Scotty is a true talent; he will stand the test of time and I am honored to be helping guide his career.”
The chart topper’s 18th birthday was the Sunday before his album dropped. McCreery said in a statement, “It’s a very good birthday present! I can’t think of anything to top it!”
