Red Carpet Rewind: Awesome Fashion at the People's Choice Awards 2014!

It’s officially award season chicas, and the People’s Choice Awards set the tone for red carpet fashion as the first show of the year. Even though most of the country is under a cold spell, stars did not shy away from wearing a multitude of colors, patterns, prints, and even showing off a lot of skin! This, of course, makes me extremely excited because I get bored of basic black quite easily.

Looking for fashion inspiration as we move into spring? Here are the hottest trends your favorite celebrities wore last night.

White Hot

Whoever said you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day, stands corrected. One of my favorite things about fashion is that the only rule anyone should follow is: wear what you feel good in.

So even though there was not a drop of snow at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California, we didn’t miss it at all thanks to Jessica Alba, Taylor Spreitler, Sadie Calvano and Jennifer Hudson who all rocked white ensembles.

Top honors in this category goes to Jennifer Hudson for her Kaufman Franco dress that hugged her curves perfectly. The modest neckline helped keep the focus right where it should be: her trendy new pixie cut.

Flower Power

You know what they say, trends from the past have a way of coming back to inspire new generations. The flower power era from the 1960’s and 1970’s was well represented on the red carpet last night.

Everyone from host Kat Dennings, Britney Spears, Melissa Joan Hart, and Kaley Cuoco wore flowers to various degrees.

Newlywed Cuoco wore my favorite look from this category--- a black and cobalt dress from Sachin and Babi. I love how the black top accentuates her slim waist, but my favorite thing about the dress is the laser cut flower details on the skirt. Muy elegante!

Prints, Prints, EVERYWHERE

I can safely say, I’ve never seen so many prints on a red carpet--- ever! The most important thing to consider with this trend is your body type. It is very easy to make a mistake and overpower curvy or petite frames with prints that are too busy.

Who got it right last night? Multiple award winner Sandra Bullock in Peter Pilotto, Lucy Hale in Gabriela Cadena, Rocsi Diaz in Nicole Miller, and Melissa McCarthy.

I really couldn’t decide on a clear winner because both Sandra Bullock and Rocsi Diaz were on point.  Sandra’s patterned dress could have been a fail if not for that cream colored sash wrapped around her waist. Rocsi is a “win” across the board for color, choice of pattern, overall fit and strapless cut.

I’m An Original

You don’t need to be part of a trend in order to be a trendsetter. There were plenty of stars walking the carpet that were in a class of their own. One of my favorite looks of the night belonged to “Glee” star Naya Rivera who wore a color-block dress by Michael Kors. The colors on the dress, beige, cream and black, were perfect for fall and the high-low hemline works great on someone of her height.

“Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev opted for black when picking out her dress, but luckily there was nothing basic about it. The stunning Jenny Packham ensemble sparkled with sequins and featured long sleeves and high neckline.

One of my favorite moments from the award show was when she and ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder received the People’s Choice Award for “Best Chemistry” and they jokingly discussed their on/off screen relationship. This has the rumor mill guessing the two might be back together on the DL.
