The Grammy Awards: Hot Trends and Unforgettable Moments

The Grammy Awards was always a night for fashion risks and shocking outfits, but after last night, the tide has officially turned! As every star hit the red carpet at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, it was noticeable that the glamour of recent awards shows including the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globes had a big influence on fashion choices.

As gorgeous as so many of the dresses were, there was no denying that hats were on everyone’s mind thanks to multiple award winner Pharrell and the legendary Madonna. I’ve not seen such locura over this accessory since Aretha Franklin rocked that unforgettable silver Luke Song hat to President Barack Obama’s inauguration in early 2009! Yes, people compared Pharell’s hat to the fast food chain Arby’s logo and Madonna’s to “The Duke of Hazzard’s Boss Hog, but I love that an accessory had such power over the people!

I could go on and on about the hats but its time we talk about the hottest red carpet trends of the night and the most memorable moments.

Metallic-ah!

Nearly every single dress I favored from the red carpet was made of shades of gold and silver. Favorites include COVERGIRL Taylor Swift who stepped out in a gold Gucci Premiere gown, Chrissy Teigen in a Johanna Johnson gown also in gold, mommy-to-be Ciara in Emilio Pucci, Rita Ora in Lanvin, and Amber Rose in Naeem Khan.

Red, White, and Blue

COVERGIRL Pink stunned on the carpet in a strapless, Johanna Johnson gown showing off lots of cleavage. This was a breathtaking choice for Pink who later blew the audience away with her high-flying performance of “Try” and “Just Give Me a Reason” alongside Nate Reuss from fun. Country star Miranda Lambert looked red hot in a jaw dropping Pamella Roland gown as she posed next to hubby and fellow country star Blake Shelton.

The blue dress trend is hardly a fad as proven by Alicia Keys last night. The beautiful brunette was a winner both on and off the red carpet. She looked radiant in a royal blue Armani Prive gown when she collected her Grammy Award for “Best R&B Album” beating out John Legend, TGT, and Chrisette Michele.

I don’t know who’s been dressing Paris Hilton lately but she needs to keep he/she on the payroll! She was a standout in a white House of Milani gown that featured daring, sheer panels all along her back showing lots of skin. The high neckline and simple front made this a big win for the heiress-turned-DJ/singer/actress.

Muy Caliente Machos

We can hardly forget to discuss the men who brought their A-game to the Grammy Awards red carpet last night. Marc Anthony, Juanes, and Bruno Mars looked exceptionally handsome as they made their way into the award show.

Marc, who cozied up to long-term girlfriend Chloe Green during the telecast, was dashing on stage as he presented the “Best Pop Solo Performance” Grammy to fellow Latino Bruno Mars alongside the legendary Gloria Estefan.  I know it’s an old song, but seeing Marc and Gloria together omade me wish they sang their version of “Mi Tierra” last night. Am I the only one?

Colombian superstar Juanes must really be enjoying his hair short these days! The multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy award winner stood by actress Anna Faris in a freshly shaved haircut to present the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” Grammy to Daft Punk and Pharrell for “Get Lucky.” As much as I love that song, I kept hoping we could get lucky and see Juanes perform any of his songs! Maybe next year si?

Speaking of Daft Punk, even though we never got to see their smiling faces last night, they did look exceptionally handsome in their tuxedos! The French duo kept their identities hidden under shiny robotic helmets but it somehow worked as part of their ensembles. They were the big winners of the night taking home five Grammy awards by the end of the night.

Surprise, “I Dos”

I’m surprised Twitter didn’t “fail whale” last night after Queen Latifah hit the stage. Yes, the rapper/actress-turned-talk show host looked phenomenal in an off-the- shoulder, sparkly black gown looking trim, but it was mostly a surprise to the audience when she officiated the marriage of 34 gay and straight couples live on the air! There was nary a dry eye in the house when, to the tune of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ performance of “Same Love”, couples said “I Do” en masse as Latifah emphasized, “This song is not a love song for some of us but for all of us.”

Madonna followed up the tune with her timeless hit, “Open Your Heart” as the couples shared their first kiss as spouses.

What were some of your favorite looks and moments of the night?
