This award season has been so different from any others in that, red carpet fashion has increasingly improved with every show. If there was any doubt, you need only have seen the Screen Actors Guild Awards, held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Hollywood, California last night.
Leading the charge was Lupita Nyong'o, a relative newcomer on the scene whose daring fashion choices are garnering as much attention as her portrayal of Patsey in 12 Years a Slave. The red Ralph Lauren cape gown she wore to the Golden Globe Awards is already one of my favorite looks of the season and her follow-up last night, a turquoise Gucci gown with floral embroidered straps, was also a showstopper.
Speaking of the Golden Globes, in that fashion trend roundup I talked about how fashion is constantly inspired by past trends. Sandra Bullock’s metallic green Lanvin totally took me back the 1980s! The color, the bow, and even the styling of the slit remind me of a dress I wore to a quince. Obviously Sandra's take is much more modern, and while she may not have taken home an award last night, she’s still a winner in my book.
Latinas keep showing the world that we're a force to be reckoned with on the big/small screen as well as the red carpet. COVERGIRL Sofia Vergara proved this point perfectly when she accepted the SAG Award alongside her Modern Family co-stars for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Comedy Series” in her jaw-dropping Donna Karan Atelier gown. Even though she opted for a relatively “safe” look, this Colombiana sparkled from head-to-toe.
And while Sofia is always a fan favorite, Brasilera Camila Alves is giving her a run for her money! The mommy-of-three also wore a Donna Karan Atelier gown in the most perfect shade of chartreuse. It certainly didn’t hurt that she had the hottest arm candy in town -- husband Matthew McConaughey looked very dapper in his Dolce & Gabbana suit.
Rocsi Diaz kept her look classic in a black Victoria Beckham dress but had a little fun accessorizing with a hot pink Gelareh Mizrahi clutch. Homeland star Morena Baccarin, on the other hand, took the plunge and wore the hottest color of the season -- blue. She showed off her post-baby bod in a royal shade made by Monique Lhuillier. Her makeup is also worth noting because her fresh-faced look, featuring metallic shadows and a nude lip, will be very hot this spring. In acheiving this look, don’t forget to use a kohl black liner on both the upper and lower lashline for definition and drama.
Other hot looks included Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang, Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi, Isla Fisher in Oscar de la Renta, Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera, Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture, and Elizabeth Moss in Michael Kors.
