Pop Culture: America Ferrera Emmy

America Ferrera’s Emmy Win
It’s no small feat taking a beloved telenovela character and making her your own. But that’s exactly what America Ferrera did as Betty Suarez on Ugly Betty. Based on the Colombian Yo soy Betty, la fea, the hit dramedy spent four seasons on the air and made Ferrera a star. And, what better way to celebrate Ferrera’s impressive make-under to portray a good-hearted but fashion-challenged woman trying to make it at a trendy high fashion magazine than with her first Emmy award! “It is truly an amazing, wonderful thing that happens when your dreams come true,” professed Ferrera when she picked up her golden statuette for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2007 Primetime Emmy Awards, making her the first Latina to win in that category.

She's a pop culture junkie who watches way too much television, and she still hoards magazines.
