WATCH: This 'Negrita' Documentary Trailer Will Move You!

Nubian Latina.

That's the term social worker-turned-director, Magdalena Albizu, says she coined to "embrace my blackness." A dominicana from Brooklyn, who founded the Long Island Latino International Film Festival in 2004 and also served as the former President of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), Albizu is aiming to to establish a "black" consciousness across all generations by reigniting a movement to embrace Latinos’ African roots through her documentary, Negrita.

The documentary highlights the Afro-Latina identity and experience in the United States through unique stories told to Albizu by Latinas living with "a changing, often contested identity in a racialized society and how it affects their personal and professional lives."

Albizu and NubianLatina Productions LLC recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in order to raise $50K to get this documentary really going across the U.S. You can help Negrita become a reality by donating to the campaign fund here before June 10! Shooting is scheduled to begin in September 2014.
