Pope Francis Accidentally Swears in Public!

Corbis

Uh oh!

Pope Francis shocked the audience at his weekly blessing at the Vatican on Sunday when he accidentally swore in a public speech, BBC News reports.

Speaking in Italian, the pope used the word 'cazzo', which is equivalent to the word 'fuck' in English. He meant to say 'caso', which means 'case.' The slip-up has inspired a series of viral videos and rash of comments, despite Pope Francis' immediate correction.

According to NPR, the mistake is common for non-native Italian speakers. Pope Francis is originally from Argentina and his first language is Spanish.

The Italian press says the blunder is unlikely to affect the Pope's image. As it is, he already has a bit of a bad boy persona.
