After spending nine months out of the public eye, Cuba's former president Fidel Castro made an appearance in Havana for an art gallery opening.

According to Fox News Latino, the 87-year-old arrived at the event on Thursday wearing a black jacket and green scarf.

Castro walked around with the help of a walking aid, admiring the various pieces of art inside the Romerillo Studio -- an arts organization devoted to "the development and dissemination of the arts and human understanding."

The former president's last public appearance was on April 9, 2013 for the inauguration of a Havana school.
