A new program announced on Tuesday will grant millions of dollars in scholarship money to DREAMers, reports The Huffington Post.
The scholarship program, called TheDream.US, will give these undocumented college-bound students the opportunity to attend school, which they would not have been able to afford without the grant.
TheDream.US will pay each student, based on need, up to 100 percent of tuition, or around $25,000 over four years. It will even give DREAMers the chance to attend private schools that offer various programs to help them stay in school.
But not all DREAMers will be eligible for the scholarship grants, it is only being offered to those who have been granted deferred action under President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy.
"Absent the passage of the Dream Act or other breakthroughs in immigration policy, thousands of eager young people will be unable to achieve their academic dreams," said Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, who helped launch TheDream.US. "We are not waiting for Washington to solve these challenges."
