Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the president of Argentina, is taking on an important new role: godmother!

Karina Villaroel and Soledad Ortiz, who welcomed their baby on Jan. 27, reached out to the Argentine President through Facebook. Surprisingly, President Kirchner saw the message and responded to the couple! She agreed to become the godmother for the newborn, Umma Azul.

"Cristina has agreed to be godmother," Villaroel told reporters. "What a great gesture! I hope she can come to the [baptism] ceremony, and does not send a representative. It's a dream come true for us."

In 2010, Argentina became the first Latin American country to legalize same-sex marriage after a strong push from President Kirchner's office.
