Jennifer Lopez is one accomplished woman. Anyone can tell you that. But her accomplishments were formally recognized at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, as she received the 2014 Icon Award, the award that recognizes lifetime musical achievement. Even more groundbreaking: She's the first woman to win the award! The award has previously been bestowed upon Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder and Prince.
In a video montage, artists including Britney Spears, Pitbull, Taylor Swift and Rihanna, paid tribute to the star by highlighting her prestigious career. "You continue to break down barriers and inspire girls," Rihanna said.
Ricky Martin and Iggy Azalea presented the award to the star.
"Oh my God, what the heck?" she exclaimed as she took the stage. "Music has always been my first love." In her speech she thanked family and friends, but also gave a shoutout to her fellow Latinos. "Para mi gente Latina: trabajen duro y sueñen en grande. Mucha fe." Translation? "To my Latin people: work hard, dream big. A lot of faith."
The star had quite the night, not only winning the Icon Award but also giving two performances that night: one with Pitbull for the World Cup song, "We Are One (Ole Ola)" and also for the debut performance of her newest single "First Love," from her 10th studio album A.K.A., dropping June 17.
