According to Deadline, the film is currently titled Montezuma and will be directed by Spielberg. Deadline also reports that the film could possibly see a name change, since the story will be told from Cortés' point of view.
Bardem is reportedly set to play the Spanish conquistador.
Fox News Latino reports that the film will focus on Cortés' infiltration into Mexico in 1519, bringing with him the lust for gold and silver, along with diseases like smallpox.
