Richard Sandoval's Maya has to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in NYC, so you pretty much can't order wrong here. In addition to a wide variety of various taco options (the al pastor with adobo pork, caramelized pineapple, onion and salsa verde being our favorite), the zucchini flower and poblano chile quesadilla with Oaxaca cheese, black bean purée, and mango “salsita” and the caramelized plantains with chipotle butter and crema fresca are worth a bite or 5, as is the carne asada (achiote marinated hanger steak, black beans, chile pulla sauce, cactus-green bean salad and bacon-wrapped jalapeño). Definitely don't leave without trying one of Maya's signature margaritas either. The Yucatan (Don Julio Blanco, habañero, blood orange, chile pasilla rim) is a game changer.
